Testo 176 T3 (product code 0572 1763) is a multi-channel temperature data logger with a metal housing that simultaneously measures and records temperature at four different points using type K, T and J probes connected to 4 external thermocouple inputs. Depending on the connected probe type, it measures in the range of −200 … +1000 °C with type K, −200 … +400 °C with type T and −100 … +750 °C with type J, with 0.1 °C resolution, and stores up to 2 million readings. With its rugged IP65 protected housing, it is used to monitor compliance with specified temperature values in industrial processes.

Important: The device requires thermocouple probes for measurement; the thermocouple probes and the mini USB connection cable required to program the logger are not included in the scope of delivery. Type K, T or J probes suitable for the application and, if you do not have one at first purchase, a mini USB cable must be obtained separately.

Simultaneous Thermocouple Temperature Logging at Four Points

The active channels and the probe type to be connected to each input are defined with the free Testo ComSoft Basic software; the probes are plugged into the inputs numbered 1 to 4 on the underside of the housing. The measuring interval can be freely selected between 1 second and 24 hours; at a 15-minute measuring interval it runs for approximately 8 years on a single lithium AA battery, and the expected battery life is calculated in the software according to the measuring interval and the number of connected sensors. Recorded data are retained when the battery runs out or is being replaced.

The device has no display; operating status is monitored with colored LEDs: the red LED flashes when the remaining battery life falls below 30 and 10 days and when the battery is empty, and flashes three times when the button is pressed if a limit value has been exceeded; the yellow LED indicates logging mode and the green LED standby mode. Data are transferred to a computer via the mini USB port on the side or to a card inserted in the SD card slot: when an SD card is inserted and the GO button is pressed for more than 2 seconds, copying starts; the yellow LED lights during the process and the process is complete when the green LED flashes twice. In the software, data are viewed as graphs and tables and exported to Excel. The device is placed in the wall bracket and secured with the supplied lock.

Technician Tips

• Match the probe type with the software: plug the probe of the thermocouple type you defined in the software for each channel into the corresponding numbered input on the housing; seat the plugs fully with the correct polarity and without force.
• Close unused inputs: IP65 protection is only achieved when probes are connected to the inputs or unused inputs are closed with blanking plugs.
• Take care with non-insulated surface probes: the maximum permissible potential difference between sensor inputs is 50 V; take this into account if you use surface probes with non-insulated thermocouples.
• Only the probe tip at the hot spot: the logger operates at −20 … +70 °C; place only the probe tip at high-temperature points, and do not expose the probe handle and cable to more than 70 °C unless a permissible value is specified. Testo offers a heat protection case (0572 9999) as an accessory, protecting up to +200 °C.
• Protect battery life: prolonged LED flashing, reading out with an SD card several times a day and extreme temperature fluctuations shorten battery life; plan the readout frequency as needed.
