Testo 175 T3 (product code 0572 1753) is a two-channel temperature data logger that simultaneously measures and records the temperature at two different points via two external thermocouple inputs. With type K probes it measures in the range of −50 … +1000 °C, with type T probes −50 … +400 °C, and it stores up to 1 million readings. With its wide measuring range and IP65 protected housing, it is suitable for long-term monitoring of flow and return temperatures in heating systems and of temperatures at two points in refrigeration systems and processes.

Important: At least one external thermocouple probe is required to put the device into operation; the probe and the mini USB connection cable required to program the logger are not included in the scope of delivery and must be obtained separately.

Simultaneous Temperature Logging at Two Points in Heating and Cooling Installations

In apartments that do not heat up sufficiently during the heating season, the flow and return temperatures of radiators are recorded with pipe-clamp thermocouple probes; the cause of problems such as sludging is identified and eliminated. In the same way, temperatures at two points in refrigeration systems are recorded to document system operation.

The measuring interval can be freely selected between 10 seconds and 24 hours; at a 15-minute measuring interval it runs for approximately 3 years on 3 × AAA batteries. The large LCD display shows the values of both channels, the highest and lowest recorded values, alarm values and battery status; when a limit is exceeded, it is shown on the display. Data are transferred to a computer via the mini USB port or to a card inserted in the SD card slot, and the logger is programmed and evaluated with the free Testo ComSoft Basic software. Recorded data are retained when the battery runs out or is being replaced.

Technician Tips

• Choose a pipe probe for installations: clamp-on or Velcro type K thermocouple probes are suitable for flow and return temperatures on radiator and manifold lines.
• Record flow and return at the same time: connect the two probes to the flow and return pipes of the same circuit; simultaneous logging of both channels shows the temperature difference in the circuit over time.
• Ensure good probe contact with the surface: when measuring on a pipe surface, fix the probe firmly to a surface cleaned of paint and dirt; an air gap lowers the reading.
• Read out data before replacing batteries: battery replacement stops the running logging program; read out the data first and restart the program after replacement.
• Observe the operating temperature: the logger housing is suitable for ambient temperatures of −20 … +55 °C; at hotter or colder points, leave the housing outside and place only the probe at the measuring point.
