Testo 176 T1 (product code 0572 1761) is a single-channel temperature data logger with a metal housing that measures and records temperature with high precision using an internal Pt100 class A sensor. It measures in the range of −35 … +70 °C with ±0.2 °C accuracy and 0.01 °C resolution, and stores up to 2 million readings. With its IP68 protected, impact-resistant housing, it is suitable for long-term temperature logging in deep freezers and cold rooms; for example, it is used in industrial warehouses with forklift and pallet impacts. Like all Testo data loggers for the food sector, it is tested according to DIN EN 12830.

Important: The mini USB connection cable required to program the logger is not included in the scope of delivery; if you do not have a cable at first purchase, it must be obtained separately. Data are transferred to a computer via USB cable or optional SD card.

High-Precision Temperature Logging Under Harsh Conditions

The measuring interval can be freely selected between 1 second and 24 hours; at a 15-minute measuring interval it runs for approximately 8 years on a single lithium AA battery; Testo's special lithium battery must be used when replacing it. The device has no display; operating status is monitored with colored LEDs: the red LED flashes when the remaining battery life falls below 30 and 10 days and when the battery is empty, and flashes three times when the button is pressed if a limit value has been exceeded; the yellow LED indicates logging mode and the green LED standby mode. Recorded data are retained when the battery runs out or is being replaced.

Data are transferred to a computer via the mini USB port under the side cover or to a card inserted in the SD card slot: when an SD card is inserted and the GO button is pressed for more than 2 seconds, copying starts; the yellow LED lights during the process and the process is complete when the green LED flashes twice. With the free Testo ComSoft Basic software, the logger is programmed and data are viewed as graphs and tables and exported to Excel. The device is placed in the wall bracket and secured with the supplied lock.

Technician Tips

• Place it at a critical control point: to capture temperature fluctuations in cold storage, place the logger at a critical point near the door, passage or refrigeration unit; a 15-minute logging interval is typically used.
• Follow the LED warnings: if the red LED starts flashing every 10 seconds, the remaining battery life is below 30 days; read out the data and plan the battery replacement.
• Observe the SD card temperature limit: the Testo SD card can be used down to −20 °C; do not read out with the card in deep freezers below this temperature.
• Take care when reading out during logging: while being read out to an SD card, a logger in logging mode records at an interval of at most 10 seconds; when the readout is finished, it returns to the programmed interval.
• Have it calibrated annually: devices used under EN 12830 require regular inspection and calibration according to EN 13486; once a year is recommended.
