Testo 184 H1 (product code 0572 1845), developed to monitor relative humidity and temperature together during transport, is a USB humidity and temperature data logger with a display and a replaceable battery. It is used when transporting sensitive goods such as fruit and vegetables, moisture-sensitive pharmaceuticals, cut flowers, electronic goods and works of art. With its internal sensor it measures 0 … 100 %RH humidity and −20 … +70 °C temperature, and records up to 60,000 readings. It runs for up to 500 days on a replaceable CR2450 battery (15 min measuring interval, +25 °C) and has unlimited service life. No software installation is required: settings are made via the PDF configuration file inside the logger, and when it is plugged into a computer a PDF report containing the measurement data is generated automatically. It is HACCP International certified.

Logger with Display Monitoring Humidity and Temperature Together in Transport

The logger is delivered in deep sleep mode to save battery; pressing the START or STOP button switches it to standby mode. Recording starts by pressing the START button for about 3 seconds or automatically at the configured time, and Rec appears on the display; a start delay can be defined for button start. Recording ends by pressing the STOP button for 3 seconds or at the set time. To document the stages at which responsibility passes to another company during transport, up to 10 time stamps can be set by pressing the START button for 3 seconds.

Each press of the START button cycles the single-line LCD display through the current temperature and humidity values, mean kinetic temperature (MKT), the highest and lowest recorded temperature and humidity values and the remaining battery life in days; when the lower or upper limit is exceeded, the corresponding symbol appears on the display. At the destination, a glance at the LEDs is enough: if the Alarm LED is green there has been no limit violation, if it is red an alarm has occurred; the Battery LED turns red when the remaining battery life drops below 10 days; the Mode LED shows recording (green), ended (red) and standby (green and red) status.

When the logger is plugged into a computer's USB port, the configuration PDF inside it opens in Adobe Reader; settings such as the measuring interval (1 minute … 24 hours), start and stop criteria, and single alarm or cumulative alarm (triggered when the permitted total time is exceeded) for temperature and humidity are made and saved to the logger. The PDF report generated at the end of transport can be opened, printed or sent by e-mail; the configuration file, user manual and PDF report are stored inside the logger. Thanks to the NFC interface, data can be transferred wirelessly to the Testo mobile printer (0572 0576). For fixed mounting, the Testo wall bracket (0554 1841) is available as an accessory.

Technician Tips

• Keep the USB cover closed: the protection class is IP30; the USB cover must be closed during use so that moisture or liquid cannot enter and damage the device.
• Let it rest after high humidity: after up to 60 hours of use in environments above 80% RH, let the logger rest at +25 ±5 °C and 50 ±10% RH. The accuracy of a sensor exposed to high humidity for a long time decreases; keeping it at 50 ±10% RH and 20 ±5 °C for 48 hours regenerates the sensor.
• Mind the humidity sensor's optimal range: the humidity sensor provides the highest accuracy between 5 … 60 °C and 20 … 80% RH; it is not used in condensing environments.
• Read out the data before changing the battery: when the battery is changed, an ongoing recording stops, the clock setting is reset and the logger switches to Reset (rSt) mode; stored data is retained. After removing the old battery, wait 10 seconds, insert only a new, fully charged battery and reconfigure the logger with the configuration PDF.
• Use software for long recordings: the graph in the PDF report is drawn with a maximum of 324 readings; to see all values in long recordings, Testo ComSoft software is recommended.
