Ranco VaRifix VT92 is a mechanical equivalent thermostat that provides temperature control in two-door (refrigerator + freezer compartment) domestic refrigerators. The VaRifix family is designed by Ranco for field replacement: each model is coded for a specific appliance type and can be fitted directly in place of the original thermostat. The VT92 is the family's 2 metre capillary tube (long tail) version; it is used in cabinet types where the probe needs to be extended far inside the refrigerator.

Technical Specifications, Series Differences and Replacement Notes
- Operating temperatures: In Ranco's VaRifix table, the VT9 (1200 mm) and VT93 (3000 mm) carry the same temperature values; only the capillary length changes within the series. Therefore the values -26 °C / +3.5 °C (cold) and -11 °C / +3.5 °C (warm) also apply to the VT92.
- The difference within the series is the capillary length. In the Ranco VT family there are three lengths for the same application (2-door refrigerator): VT9 → 1200 mm, VT92 → 2000 mm (this product), VT93 → 3000 mm. Measure the capillary tube of the thermostat you will remove before ordering; a capillary that is too short cannot bring the probe to the correct point, while excess length bunches up inside the cabinet.
- Probe placement determines temperature accuracy. Place the probe at the end of the capillary into the same socket where the original thermostat was located, with the same depth and contact. A probe that is loose or not touching the evaporator causes the refrigerator to run continuously or to stop early.
- Do not break the capillary tube. If the gas charge inside leaks out, the thermostat is permanently disabled; do not make sharp bends, and route it through the cable duct to protect it from the risk of crushing during installation.
- Confirm the fault before replacement. The refrigerator never stopping, never running or not responding to the temperature setting indicates a thermostat fault; however, the same symptoms are also seen with a leaking door gasket, a dirty condenser and a refrigerant leak. Rule out these three before replacing the thermostat.
- Electrical connection: Connect the cables according to the original diagram and note/photograph the terminal numbers before disconnecting. Unplug the appliance from the socket before starting work.
