Ranco K60-P1029-001 is a mechanical thermostat that controls the cabinet temperature in single-door (manual defrost) domestic refrigerators. Ranco's K60 family is designed for single-door refrigerators: the thermostat switches the compressor on and off according to the temperature measured by the probe at the end of the capillary tube. It is used as a direct replacement part in appliances whose original thermostat has failed.

Technical Specifications, K60 Series and Replacement Notes
- The K60 family is for single-door refrigerators. In Ranco's range, K59 is coded for two-door (refrigerator + freezer) refrigerators, while K60 is coded for single-door manual defrost refrigerators. If your appliance is a two-door model, choose the K59-based models (VT9 / VT92 / VT93).
- Compare the original code when replacing. There are different variants in the K60 family such as P1013, P1029 and L2024, and these differ in operating temperatures and capillary length. Always compare the Ranco code on the body of the thermostat you are removing and the length of its capillary tube.
- Probe placement determines temperature accuracy. Place the probe at the end of the capillary into the same socket where the original thermostat was located, with the same depth and contact. A loose probe causes the refrigerator to run continuously, while a probe with excessive contact causes it to stop early.
- Do not break the capillary tube. If the gas charge inside leaks out, the thermostat is permanently disabled; do not make sharp bends, and route it through the cable duct to protect it from the risk of crushing during installation.
- Confirm the fault before replacement. The refrigerator never stopping, never running or not responding to the setting indicates a thermostat fault; the same symptoms are also seen with a leaking door gasket, a dirty condenser and a refrigerant leak. Rule out these three before replacing the thermostat.
- Unplug the appliance from the socket before electrical work; note or photograph the terminal positions before disconnecting the cables.
