Testo 835-T2 High-Temperature Infrared Thermometer – −10…+1500 °C, 50:1 Optics, 4-Point Laser, with Memory (0560 8352)

Testo 835-T2 (product code 0560 8352) is a high-temperature infrared thermometer (pyrometer) that measures surface temperature without contact in the range −10 … +1500 °C. Thanks to its 50:1 optics, it measures an area about 10 cm in diameter from a distance of 5 m; the 4-point laser shows the boundaries of the measuring area. It is designed for high-temperature applications such as monitoring product temperature in the glass, ceramics and metal industries; it also performs contact measurement from −50 … +1000 °C with a connected type K thermocouple probe.

Measurement from a Safe Distance with 50:1 Optics and a 4-Point Laser

Small, hard-to-reach, moving or very hot objects are measured from a safe distance. Holding the trigger gives a spot measurement (SCAN), or a single press gives continuous measurement (CONT); when measurement ends, the value stays on the display with HOLD. The display shows max./min. values together with the infrared temperature; with a probe connected, the probe temperature, infrared temperature and the difference between them are shown together. Upper and lower alarm limits can be set for infrared and probe temperature; when a limit is exceeded, it gives an audible and visual alarm.

Emissivity is set in three ways: selection from the material list in the device, manual entry in the range 0.10 … 1.00, or automatic calculation by comparing contact and infrared measurements with a connected type K probe; 20 emissivity values can be stored. Measurements are saved to memory up to 200 values, time- and date-stamped with the measuring location name, and transferred to a computer via USB with the free Testo EasyClimate PC software. The device is operated with a joystick and an icon menu; the dot matrix display is illuminated.

Technician Tips

• Remove the lens cap: remove the orange protective cap from the lens before measuring and refit it after measuring.
• Determine emissivity with a probe: use the automatic emissivity calculation on unknown materials; if the difference between the surface and ambient temperature is very small, the calculation cannot be made.
• Mind the limit of emissivity tape: emissivity tape withstands up to approx. +250 °C; on hotter surfaces, determine emissivity by probe comparison.
• Immerse the immersion probe deep enough: the minimum immersion depth for immersion probes is 10 times the probe diameter; do not use them in aggressive acids and alkalis.
• Define measuring locations: for repeated checks, create measuring location names in the device; values are saved so that they can be compared.
• Do not look into the laser: the laser is class 2; do not point the beam at the eyes or, via reflective surfaces, at the face.
