Rothenberger ROLEAK PRO IR (product code 1000005063) is an infrared (IR) sensor gas leak detector developed to find refrigerant leaks in air conditioning, refrigeration and heat pump systems. At its highest sensitivity level it detects leaks down to 4 grams per year; it works with CFC, HCFC, HFC and HFO-1234yf gases, R32 included. In the field it is also known as a gas leak finder or freon leak detector.
Precise Leak Detection with an Infrared Sensor and 40 cm Flexible Probe
The 40 cm flexible probe reaches tight, hard-to-access spots such as behind the compressor and inside the condenser. The 8-level bar indicator on the color display shows the gas concentration in the leak area; when a leak is detected, the device gives an audible and visual alarm. RESET button sets the probe's zero point according to the ambient air, making it easier to narrow down the leak location, and the PEAK button marks the highest measured value. The internal lithium battery is charged via USB Type-C.

Technician's Tips
- Zero in clean air: before starting the search, switch on the device at a point with no suspected leak and set the zero point with RESET.
- Search below the line: refrigerant gases are heavier than air and collect below the leak point. Move the probe slowly along the underside of the pipe and fitting, at a few centimeters per second.
- First find the area, then the point: locate the leak area at the HIGH level, then switch to MEDIUM or LOW to pinpoint the exact location of the leak.
- Avoid air currents: stop the fan on the outdoor unit and shield the probe when searching in windy conditions; air currents disperse the gas.
- Keep the filter tip clean: dust and moisture clog the filter tip and reduce sensitivity; replace it with the spare tips in the box.
