Replacement Coil for Refrigeration Solenoid Valves: Where It Is Used and What It Solves

Most solenoid valve failures originate not in the valve body but in the coil: the winding burns out, the insulation breaks down or moisture causes oxidation inside the connector. In this case, instead of removing the whole valve (recovering the system, brazing, then evacuating and recharging again), replacing only the coil is sufficient — the system is not opened, no refrigerant is lost and the job takes minutes.

• Applications: Liquid line solenoids in cold rooms and commercial refrigeration, pump-down circuits, defrost hot gas lines, refrigerant shut-off valves in split and VRF units.
• Typical fault symptoms: The valve does not open even though the compressor is running (no click even though the coil is energized), the coil overheats, or an open circuit or short circuit is read when the winding resistance is measured.
• Test method: Remove the coil from the valve and, before energizing, measure the winding resistance with an ohmmeter; infinite resistance (open circuit) or a value close to zero (short circuit) indicates that the coil is dead. A healthy coil, when energized, magnetically pulls a screwdriver inserted into it.

• 🔧 Compatibility is verified by checking three things: voltage (220-230 V AC), power (8 W) and the coil's inner diameter / height against the size of the valve stem. This coil is for Hongsen Model 10 valves; if you will fit it to another brand of valve, compare the stem diameter and coil height with the old coil — a coil that sits loosely on the stem heats up and cannot fully open the valve.
• Fit it on the valve before energizing. If an AC coil is energized without a stem, it draws excessive current because the magnetic circuit is not closed and burns out quickly. First slide it onto the stem, then apply power.
• Do not skip the connector gasket. The rubber gasket under the DIN plug prevents moisture ingress; if the gasket is missing or crushed, condensation in a cold room will oxidize the connector. Pass the cable through the gland and tighten it.
