• Flame adjustment: First open the gas valve and ignite, then slowly open the oxygen to obtain a neutral flame. Excess oxygen oxidizes the tube, while excess gas gives a sooty flame and weak heat.
• Shut-down sequence: Close the gas valve first, then the oxygen valve. Closing in the reverse order can cause a sudden backfire pop at the tip and tip clogging.
• Tip maintenance: If soot or spattered brazing alloy builds up on the tip, the flame is disturbed; clean it gently with suitable tip cleaning wires, and do not enlarge the hole with a drill or stiff wire.
