Practical Note for Field Technicians

Technician Note: Pay attention to the 12:1 ratio of the device; as you move away from the target, the circular area measured by the device gets larger. To read a correct value, make sure the target is larger than the measuring spot (spot size) of the device. Also, the device may give misleading results when measuring the temperature of shiny or polished metal surfaces (low emissivity); in such cases, applying matte tape or matte paint to the surface and measuring after the tape/paint reaches the surface temperature will give much more accurate results.
