Sporlan ERJE/BBIJE-5-CP60 Thermostatic Expansion Valve – 18 kW / 5 Tons, R134a

Sporlan ERJE/BBIJE-5-CP60 is an externally equalized thermostatic expansion valve (TXV) for R134a refrigerant. With a nominal capacity of 18 kW (≈5 tons), it adjusts the liquid feed to the evaporator according to the suction line superheat. It has a CP60 thermostatic charge and, thanks to its external equalizer connection, opens correctly even in evaporators with a high pressure drop.

Naming note: In Parker's current catalogs this valve is sold under the code BBIJE-5-CP60; the old Sporlan designation is ERJE-5-CP60. Both codes identify the same product — either may be printed on the box.

Sporlan TXV: The Field Reference Valve

• 18 kW nominal capacity — verify the selection against the Sporlan capacity table for your evaporating/condensing conditions.
• Externally equalized: The design required in evaporators with a distributor and long coils.
• Replaceable power element: On Sporlan bodies the thermostatic head can be renewed separately; the charge can be changed without removing the body.

• 🔧 Clamp the sensing bulb firmly to the suction pipe at the 3-4 o'clock position and insulate it; a loose bulb causes the valve to overfeed.
• Take the external equalizer line 15-20 cm after the bulb, from the top of the suction pipe.
• Cool the body with a wet cloth during brazing — the power element charge is damaged by heat.
• Do not move the superheat setting far from the factory value; in case of instability, first check the charge quantity and bulb contact.
