Shut-Off Valve 3/4 inch – Flare Manual Shut-Off Valve, with Flare Nuts

The shut-off valve is a manually operated isolation valve installed in refrigeration and air conditioning lines. Both ends have flare connections; the flare nuts are supplied with the product. The body is brass and the handwheel is red plastic. Thanks to the perforated foot underneath, it can be screwed to a panel or chassis, and the arrow on the body indicates the flow direction.

The connection size of this product is 3/4 inch, and both sides of the line are the same size.

What Is It Used For?

It is used to isolate a section of the system without draining the entire installation. During service it is most often used for the following tasks:

• When replacing a filter drier, sight glass or expansion valve, closing the line and evacuating only that section.
• When replacing a compressor, holding the refrigerant in the rest of the system in the line.
• When searching for leaks, dividing the line into sections to narrow down which side the leak is on.
• During long standstills, closing the liquid line to prevent refrigerant migrating to the compressor.

Before Ordering: Flare or Brazed?

This valve has flare connections — the tube end must be flared. If you are looking for a valve with solder/brazed (ODF) connections, this product will not fit. The size must match the outside diameter of the copper tube to be connected; a 3/4 inch valve fits a 3/4 inch tube, and increasing the size with an intermediate adapter creates a risk of leakage.

Installation Notes

• A smooth, burr-free flare is made on the tube end; if the flare surface is scratched, it will leak.
• Teflon tape or flux is not used on a flare connection; leak tightness is achieved by tightening the flare surface with the nut.
• The nut is not overtightened; excessive torque splits the flare. Use a torque wrench if possible.
• The valve is installed in accordance with the flow direction arrow.
• After installation, the connection points are checked for leaks.
