The Sanhua SD-14 is a 100% aluminum microchannel condenser coil from the Sanhua MCHE standard series. It is a 780 × 754.2 mm single-slab (1 bank), 2-pass design, 16 mm deep with 79 flat tubes. Depending on air velocity, it provides 5.8 - 16.3 kW (19,812 - 55,476 BTU/h) heat rejection with R410A. The all-aluminum (AA3003) body eliminates galvanic corrosion, while the inlet/outlet tubes are copper for ease of brazing.

Aluminum Microchannel Condenser Coil

The SD-14 is a single-slab microchannel condenser consisting of fins + flat tubes + end headers. The header diameter is 2 × Ø20 mm, fin density 23 FPI and fin height 8.1 mm. Refrigerant distribution is split into 2 passes as 42/37 (inlet/outlet). The maximum working pressure is 45 bar (4.5 MPa) and the burst pressure 135 bar (13.5 MPa), and its internal volume is only 0.733 liters — requiring far less refrigerant charge than a conventional tube-and-fin condenser. This lowers both refrigerant cost and the CO₂ equivalent under F-Gas regulations.

Heat Rejection Capacity (air velocity 1.0 - 4.5 m/s)

Official Sanhua test conditions: condensing 46 °C, subcooling 6.7 °C, inlet gas temperature 76 °C, air inlet 35 °C, relative humidity 39.28%.

  • R410A: 5.81 - 16.25 kW (19,812 - 55,476 BTU/h)
  • R22: 5.61 - 15.68 kW (19,161 - 53,520 BTU/h)
  • R404A: 5.65 - 15.63 kW (19,292 - 53,326 BTU/h)
  • R134a: 5.65 - 15.28 kW (19,276 - 52,153 BTU/h)

The air-side pressure drop over the same range is 13.5 - 106.4 Pa — add this value to your static pressure budget when selecting the fan.

Technician Tips

  • Connections are copper: Since the inlet/outlet tubes are copper, they are brazed to the field piping in the normal way — no aluminum brazing is needed. However, the coil body is aluminum; a hole/crack in the body requires special aluminum welding and is often not economical.
  • Capacity depends heavily on air velocity: it rises from ~5.8 kW at 1.0 m/s to ~16.3 kW at 4.5 m/s. Select your fan airflow according to your capacity target — with microchannel coils, fan selection is as decisive as coil selection.
  • Charge amount: since the internal volume is only 0.733 L, the system charge drops significantly compared with a conventional condenser. Do not charge according to the old coil; recalculate the charge.
  • Installation: as a condenser, mount it vertically (or inclined at least 15° from horizontal), positioned with the inlet connection at the top.
  • Cleaning: clean the fin surface regularly along the fin direction with low-pressure air/water; high pressure flattens the fins and permanently reduces capacity.
  • During transport and installation, take care to avoid knocking or crushing the flat tubes — microchannel tubes are thin-walled.
  • Larger sizes in the same series: SD-17 (1324 × 622.6 mm, 4.7-32.3 kW) and SD-38 (2293 × 1008 mm, 50-145 kW).
