Rothenberger 12442 Expander Head 42x1.5 mm - Standard, ROLOCK Bayonet Connection

The Rothenberger 12442 is a 42 x 1.5 mm standard expander head used in the ROLOCK expanding system. By expanding the tube end, it lets you form a socket without using a fitting; the two tubes are then pushed directly into each other and brazed. Rothenberger states that, compared with connections made with fittings, this method provides savings of up to 50% in working time, brazing material, number of joints and energy costs.

• This product does not work on its own. The expander head is used by fitting it onto a ROLOCK body (expanding tool / expander). Make sure the body you have has a ROLOCK bayonet connection; heads from different systems do not fit each other.
• The size is selected according to the tube. In 42 x 1.5 mm, 42 mm is the outside diameter of the tube and 1.5 mm is the wall thickness. If the same head is used on a tube with a thinner or thicker wall, the expanded size will not be correct and the socket will leak.
• Prepare the tube end before expanding. The tube must be cut squarely, deburred and not out of round. When a dented or oval tube is expanded, segment marks become pronounced and the risk of cracking increases.
• Lubricate the segments. Applying a thin film of suitable oil to the cone and segment surfaces before each expansion both extends the life of the head and ensures a smooth expansion. Working without lubrication causes premature wear of the segments.
• Do not force thick-walled or hard tubes in a single step. Anneal the tube if necessary; a head that is forced may suffer cracked segments and damage to the body.
• After use, clean the head and store it in a dry place; chips left between the segments cause surface marks during the next expansion.
