Embraco NEU 6215 GK (written without spaces as NEU6215GK; searched for in the field simply as 6215 GK) is a hermetic reciprocating refrigerator motor (compressor) operating with R404A. According to the Embraco data sheet it is designed for MBP (medium temperature) applications and operates in the −20 … +10 °C evaporating temperature range. With a displacement of 12.11 cm³ it delivers 1,862 W (6,353 BTU/h) cooling capacity at the ASHRAE rating point (+7.2 °C evaporating / +54.4 °C condensing); its efficiency is 1.92 W/W. At the EN 12900 MBP point (−10 °C evaporating / +45 °C condensing) it delivers 1,048 W capacity with 620 W power input. It is known on the market as 1/2 HP; the Embraco commercial power class is 3/4 HP. Its single-phase CSIR motor runs on a 220-240 V / 50 Hz mains supply. It is used in systems such as commercial refrigerated cabinets, display cabinets, bottle coolers and medium temperature cold room units.

Important: The Embraco data sheet specifies the cooling method of this compressor as fan and requires an air flow of 520 m³/h. The compressor must not be installed without providing a fan blowing air over it. Thanks to its high starting torque (HST) motor, it starts in both capillary tube and expansion valve circuits.

Hermetic Compressor Operating with R404A in Medium Temperature (MBP) Coolers and Display Cabinets

The CSIR motor starts with a start relay and an 88-108 µF / 330 V start capacitor; no run capacitor is required. The Embraco data sheet specifies the MTRPH-0055-65 start relay and the T0743/G6 overload protector. The start capacitor and relay box are supplied with the compressor, as shown in the product photo. The mains voltage must be in the 198-254 V range at 50 Hz; the locked rotor current (LRA) is 22 A. The CSR version with run capacitor is a separate product: Embraco NEU 6215 GK CSR.

The compressor oil is ester (POE) ISO 22 type and the factory charge is 350 ml. The maximum refrigerant charge that can be put into the system is 350 g according to Embraco. The compressor is supplied pressurised with dry air; it weighs 11.5 kg. The maximum condensing pressure is 24.7 bar in operation and 27.7 bar peak; the maximum motor temperature is 130 °C. It is manufactured at the Embraco factory in Slovakia.

Technician Tips

• Do not neglect the fan: the compressor is designed to be fan-cooled; Embraco requires an air flow of 520 m³/h. Direct the air flow of the condenser fan over the compressor body as well.
• Stay within the operating envelope: the evaporating temperature must be in the −20 … +10 °C range. For freezer (LBP, −25 °C and below) applications, choose Embraco's LBP series.
• Do not exceed the charge quantity: the amount of R404A put into the system must not exceed 350 g; for systems requiring a larger charge, a compressor of the next capacity up should be selected.
• Take care with POE oil: the compressor contains ester (POE) ISO 22 oil. POE oil absorbs moisture quickly; open the compressor immediately before installation, evacuate the system thoroughly and always replace the filter drier.
• Wire the electrical connection correctly: the CSIR motor operates with a start relay, start capacitor (88-108 µF 330 V) and overload protector; no run capacitor is connected. Keep the mains voltage in the 198-254 V range; the locked rotor current is 22 A.
• Select tube diameters according to the connections: suction inside diameter 8.10-8.20 mm (5/16 inch), discharge and service inside diameter 6.10-6.20 mm (1/4 inch), copper.
