Selection Criteria and Tips

To choose the right digital thermostat, the type of application must first be determined: cooling only, heating only, or cooling with defrost? Single-probe models (for example the single-probe version of the EV3L21) read only the room temperature; dual-probe models (such as the RCR305-230) monitor both the room and evaporator temperatures and time the defrost automatically. The second critical point is the relay current capacity — while the 30A output of the REAN RN311 is sufficient for direct compressor control, lower-amperage models must be driven through a contactor. In addition, the panel cut-out size (generally the 71x29 mm standard), supply voltage (230V AC models are the most common) and the suitability of the sensor type (NTC 10K standard) for the system must be checked. During programming, the hysteresis (Hy), set point (SP) and defrost interval (idF) parameters should be set according to the application.
