The Danfoss HE 1.5 (code 015D0006) is a tube-in-tube internal heat exchanger installed between the liquid line and the suction line of a refrigeration circuit. Warm liquid refrigerant passes through the outer chamber and cold suction gas through the inner chamber in counterflow: the liquid is subcooled and the suction gas is superheated. Result: evaporator capacity increases, flash gas ahead of the expansion valve is prevented, and sweating and frosting of the suction line are reduced.
Efficiency Heat Exchanger Between Liquid Line and Suction Line
Offset fins in the inner chamber catch and evaporate droplets; a wire spiral guide in the outer chamber ensures maximum heat transfer. It can be used with all refrigerants that do not react with copper/brass; sizes HE 0.5-1.5 have also been evaluated for R290 / R600a / R1270 (hydrocarbons) (EX Category 3, Zone 2).
Technical Specifications (Official Danfoss Data Sheet)
- Model: Danfoss HE 1.5 | Code: 015D0006
- Connections (ODF solder): Liquid line 1/2" · Suction line 3/4"
- Heat Transfer Value (K×A): 4.9 W/°C (dry suction gas / liquid refrigerant)
- Max. Working Pressure (PS/MWP): 28 bar | Test pressure 40 bar
- Dimensions: L 323 · ØD 36.2 · H1 30 mm | Weight: 1.0 kg — official cross-section + dimension drawing in the 2nd image
- Internal Volume: outer chamber 40 cm³ (liquid) · inner chamber 100 cm³ (suction)
- Body: Copper tubes, brass ends | Installation: counterflow
- 🔧 Counterflow is essential: The liquid and suction flows must be connected in opposite directions — if connected in the same direction, efficiency drops significantly.
- During brazing, protect the body with a wet cloth; braze with a nitrogen purge.
- Effect on superheat: Since the inner fins evaporate small liquid droplets, the measured superheat may be lower than the theoretical value — take this into account when setting the TXV.
