What Does Impedance-Protected Winding Mean?

In impedance-protected motors, the winding is designed so that it will not burn out thanks to its own resistance, even if the rotor locks. If the fan blade is stopped by a foreign object or by icing, the motor does not draw excess current and burn the winding. No separate thermal protection element is required — this is the feature sought in continuously running applications such as refrigerated cabinets.

A sleeve bearing runs more quietly than a ball bearing and is lower in cost. Running the fan with a horizontal shaft (in the upright position) extends bearing life.
