Testo 417 Set 1 (product code 0563 1417) combines the Testo 417 digital 100 mm vane anemometer (0563 0417) with the testovent 417 funnel set (0563 4170). The set includes a round funnel (Ø200 mm) for disc valves and a square funnel (330 × 330 mm) for ventilation grilles. With the funnels fitted to the vane, 0 … 440 m³/h volume flow is measured at outlets up to 300 × 300 mm. The device also measures 0.3 … 20 m/s air velocity and 0 … +50 °C air temperature and connects via Bluetooth to the Testo Smart App.

Direct Volume Flow Measurement at Vents with Funnels

Because the funnel covers the whole vent, all the outgoing air passes through the vane; there is no need to measure point by point over the vent surface and average (traverse method), so measurement time is shortened. When measuring with a funnel, the funnel factor is activated in the device's settings menu and the volume flow is read directly in m³/h, l/s or cfm. With this design it is suitable for per-vent flow adjustment and commissioning documentation in residential ventilation systems.

Without a funnel, volume flow in the range 0 … 99,999 m³/h is calculated by entering the cross-section area of the vent or grille; multi-point and timed average, HOLD and max./min. functions are available. With the Testo Smart App, the measurement is configured from the app, the smartphone is used as a second display, and a measurement report with photos is created on site as a PDF/CSV file and sent by e-mail. The measurement printout can also be obtained from the Testo Bluetooth printer.

Technician Tips

• Seat the funnel fully on the vent: if air escapes at the edge of the funnel, the air that does not pass through the vane is not measured and the volume flow reads low.
• Check the funnel factor: when measuring with a funnel, the funnel factor must be on in the device, and off when measuring without a funnel; otherwise the volume flow is calculated incorrectly.
• Check the vent size: the square funnel covers outlets up to 300 × 300 mm; for larger grilles, measure without a funnel by entering the cross-section area and using the multi-point average.
• Watch out for swirl diffusers: swirling flow distorts vane measurement; at these outlets, measurement should be made with a flow straightener.
• Turn on damping for fluctuating values: if the readings fluctuate a lot, enable damping in the Testo Smart App settings.
