Hpeok PKEK-053 is a solid-core filter drier fitted to the liquid line of refrigeration and air conditioning circuits — known in the field as a "stone" drier. By retaining moisture, acid and solid particles in the refrigerant, it prevents clogging of the expansion valve or capillary tube and acid-induced winding damage to the compressor. Its connection is 3/8 inch SAE threaded (flare); inlet and outlet are the same size.
Field advantage of the flare connection: no brazing is needed for installation and removal, and no flame is required. The ends have male SAE flare threads; the copper pipe end is flared and tightened with a nut. It is preferred in flammable environments, tight spaces where brazing is not possible and service lines with periodic drier replacement. The brazed (ODF) equivalent of the same body is the PKEK-053S.
The desiccant filling is not loose granules but a single-piece pressed block. In granular driers, the beads rub against each other under vibration and produce dust, and the filling settles over time, opening a bypass channel inside; this does not happen with a block core, and the filtering characteristics remain intact. The solid particle retention level is 40 microns, and the pressure drop is low.
The outside of the body is coated with epoxy powder paint; it withstands harsh conditions such as UV, moisture and salty air and can also be used in condensing units installed outdoors. The arrow on the body shows the flow direction — if the drier is installed backwards, the filter element is loaded from the wrong side.
Refrigerants listed on the product label: R22, R407C, R502, R134a, R404A, R507. It works in both HCFC and HFC circuits, with mineral and POE oil.
In the PKEK series, the leading digits give the body class (03 < 05 < 08 < 16 < 30) and the last digit gives the connection size: 2 1/4 inch, 3 3/8 inch, 4 1/2 inch, 5 5/8 inch. A trailing S indicates a brazed (ODF solder) connection; models without S are flare type.
Ordering by length of the models sharing the same 3/8 inch flare connection: PKEK-053 129 mm → PKEK-083 155 mm → PKEK-163 169 mm. All three have the same body diameter of Ø63.5 mm; selection is made by length and drying capacity. A longer body means more desiccant and therefore a higher moisture retention capacity.
It is used in circuits with a 3/8 inch liquid line: refrigerator and display cabinet units, small cold room units, water chillers, ice makers, split air conditioner lines and condensing units. Thanks to its flare connection, it is preferred especially for installations where brazing is not possible and for periodic drier replacement.
The body and desiccant core are the same; the connection type is different. PKEK-053 is flare (SAE flare), PKEK-053S is brazed (ODF solder). Because the flare threads take up space, the flare model is longer: 129 mm versus 120 mm.
No. The flare connection is tightened with a nut and no flame is used. The flare on the copper pipe end must be properly formed and burr-free; a burred or crooked flare leaks.
Both are 3/8 inch flare with a Ø63.5 mm body diameter; the difference is the length. PKEK-053 is 129 mm, PKEK-083 is 155 mm. A longer body holds more desiccant and therefore has a higher moisture retention capacity.

The overall length is 129 mm, the distance between connection ends 72 mm, and the body diameter Ø63.5 mm. If space is limited, the 120 mm brazed PKEK-053S can be considered.
