Danfoss 023Z458391 (type DML 167S) is a 7/8" (22 mm) ODF solder hermetic filter drier installed in the liquid line. Its solid core is 100% molecular sieve. Previous order code: 023Z4583.

Traps Moisture and Dirt — Solid Core, 100% Molecular Sieve

Moisture remaining in the circuit combines with refrigerant and oil to produce acid; the acid first destroys the winding insulation and then the compressor. Moisture also freezes at the expansion valve outlet and blocks the line. The filter drier eliminates both risks at once.

In the Danfoss ELIMINATOR® series, the core is not loose granules but a single-piece sintered block. No granules rub against each other to produce dust, the core does not collapse over time and no channels form inside it — filtration stays the same throughout its service life.

• 🔑 DML or DCL? The DML core is 100% molecular sieve — the highest moisture capacity. DCL contains 80% molecular sieve + 20% activated alumina; the alumina traps acid. Choose DCL after a compressor burnout and DML for pure moisture protection.
• ⚠️ Arrow direction is essential: the arrow on the body shows the flow direction — it can be seen in the official drawing in the 2nd image. A filter drier installed the wrong way round releases the dirt it has trapped back into the system.
• Installation location: in the liquid line, before the sight glass and the expansion valve.
• ⚠️ Brazing warning: wrap the body in a wet cloth while brazing. Excessive heat damages the core, and the filter drier can then no longer do its job.
• The filter drier MUST be replaced after a compressor burnout — the old core is loaded with acid and will destroy the new compressor as well.
