Danfoss TE 2 Thermostatic Expansion Valve (068Z7486) – R454C, External Equalization, Flare Inlet × 12 mm Solder Outlet

Danfoss TE 2 (code 068Z7486) is an externally equalized thermostatic expansion valve (TXV) calibrated for R454C refrigerant. It continuously adjusts the amount of liquid entering the evaporator according to the suction line superheat; it keeps the evaporator fully fed while preventing liquid from reaching the compressor.

Calibrated for R454C: The Expansion Valve for Low-GWP A2L Refrigerants

R454C is a blend of R32 and R1234yf, a new-generation refrigerant with low global warming potential, GWP 148. It replaces R404A (GWP 3922) and R452A, which are restricted by the F-Gas regulation. It is in ASHRAE class A2L, meaning it is mildly flammable — it is subject to different rules from A1 refrigerants in terms of installation, ventilation and leak detection.

The thermostatic element is factory-charged to the R454C pressure-temperature curve; a valve made for R404A or R452A does not give the correct superheat in an R454C system. External equalization (TE 2) is mandatory on evaporators with a liquid distributor and on multi-circuit evaporators; it compensates for the pressure drop in the evaporator so that the valve opens correctly. The internally equalized T 2 model is only for single-circuit evaporators with low pressure drop.

Capacity — By Orifice Assembly (R454C)

The valve is sold as a body; the orifice assembly is separate; the orifice number determines the capacity. Rated values (te 4.4 °C / tc 38 °C):

• ⚠️ A2L refrigerant warning: R454C is mildly flammable. Carry out installation, leak testing and evacuation in accordance with A2L rules; do not neglect room ventilation and leak detection.
• 🔧 Take the equalizing line 15-20 cm after the sensor, from the top of the suction tube; a blocked line or one taken from the wrong point makes the valve open incorrectly.
• Clamp the sensor firmly to the suction tube at the 3-4 o'clock position and insulate it.
• Cool the body with a wet cloth while brazing and purge with nitrogen — the thermostatic element charge and the orifice filter are damaged by heat.
• Order the orifice assembly separately: If the NO matching your system capacity is not selected, the valve either lets liquid through or throttles and reduces capacity.
