The Danfoss ORD-050H (code 040B0165) is a differential pressure valve and part of Danfoss’s COM compressor oil management system. It is installed between the oil reservoir and the suction line and keeps the reservoir 5.0 bar above suction pressure.
Keeps the Oil Reservoir Above Suction Pressure — the Regulator’s Ability to Feed Oil Depends on It
In parallel compressor racks (power packs), oil drains from the separator to the reservoir and is distributed from there to the oil level regulator (Danfoss COM 10 / COM 20) of each compressor. The regulator feeds oil to the compressor crankcase by pressure difference: if there is not enough difference between the reservoir and the crankcase, the oil does not flow.
The ORD valve guarantees exactly this difference. The valve stays closed until the reservoir pressure rises 5 bar above suction pressure, and when it rises above this, it relieves the excess gas to suction. If the valve fails or the wrong Δp value is selected, the compressors are starved of oil — the oil level drops, an alarm is raised and, in severe cases, the compressor seizes.

- 🔧 Select the Δp value to suit the system. The differential pressure determines the supply pressure the oil level regulator needs. If the wrong value is selected (e.g. 1.5 bar instead of 5 bar), the regulator cannot feed oil quickly enough.
- ⚠️ Mind the flow direction: The valve is one-way; the arrow on the body must point from the oil reservoir toward the suction line.
- It uses a UNF threaded connection — not brazed. Use a suitable seal/fitting during installation and do not overtighten; the body is aluminum.
- It has broad refrigerant approval including CO₂ (R744) and, with 60 bar PS, can also be used in high-pressure systems.
- Service note: On a rack giving an oil level alarm, check the ORD valve before replacing the regulator — a clogged or stuck-open ORD causes oil problems on all compressors at the same time.
