The refrigerator compressor — in technicians' terms the refrigerator motor — is the main part that circulates the refrigerant through the cycle. Choosing the Right Motor

Three pieces of information are enough: the refrigerant type (R600a in new-generation domestic refrigerators, R134a in older refrigerators, R404A in commercial coolers), the power (usually 1/12 – 1/4 HP for domestic use) and the label code of the existing motor. Searching the model code on the label gives the exact right part; if an equivalent is to be used, the refrigerant + HP + supply voltage must match. For vehicle, boat and caravan refrigerators, the 12/24 Volt DC series is used.
