What Is in the Kit?

This kit consists of three parts — all three can be seen separately in the photos:

• Cartridge body — fixing flange with two lugs, side flow window, integrated sealing rings on the body.
• Shuttle (obturator) — double sealing discs on a stainless shaft. This is the moving part that determines whether the valve directs flow to the radiators or to the heat exchanger.
• Compression spring — stainless steel.

In other words, all the parts that wear when you dismantle the valve are included in the kit; you do not need to order a shaft or spring separately.

🚨 Fondital Has Four Different Valve Codes — Do Not Mix Them Up

At Fondital, the 3-way valve group is divided into four separate part numbers. The most common mistake when ordering is confusing them:

If your valve does not move at all and there is no sound from its motor, the problem may be in the motor (6ATTCOMP00); if the motor runs but the water does not change direction, the problem is in the cartridge.

What Does the 3-Way Valve Do?

It is the part that decides whether the hot water coming from the main heat exchanger goes to the radiators or to the plate heat exchanger (domestic hot water). In Fondital appliances the valve is motor-driven; the cartridge is the bearing in which the shaft moves without leaking. Because the seals are inside the cartridge, wear and scaling also occur here.

When Should It Be Replaced?

• Radiators heat up but no hot water comes from the tap — or it comes for a few seconds and then goes cold. The most typical symptom.
• When hot water is turned on, the radiators suddenly go cold, and heating does not return when the hot water is turned off.
• The appliance gets stuck in one mode — permanently in heating or permanently in domestic hot water position.
• The heating and domestic water circuits mix — the cartridge seal is worn and there is internal leakage.
• Water drips from around the valve — external leakage.

🪤 This fault does not generate its own error code on the appliance. There is no code dedicated to the 3-way valve in Fondital's official fault table; the diagnosis is made from the symptoms above. Circulation or temperature difference warnings may appear indirectly, but these are not specific to the valve.

Why Does It Seize?

It is a known risk that the shaft of a valve that stays in the same position for a long time seizes with limescale and sediment. Knowing this, Fondital has built an anti-seize function into its appliances: in a boiler that has not operated for 24 hours, the pump and the diverter valve are run for 10 seconds. Nevertheless, cartridge life is shorter in hard water areas — while 5–8 years can be expected under normal conditions, it can drop to as little as 3 years with hard water.

🪤 Clean the valve seat when replacing the cartridge. Limescale crust left in the seat strains the seal of the new cartridge from the first day, and the same fault soon recurs.
