Technician Tips

• Before flaring, cut the tube square with the VTC-32 and always deburr it; a burred tube causes scratches and leaks on the flare surface.
• Clamp the tube so that it protrudes about 1-1.5 mm from the bar; the flare diameter is set so that it fully fills the seating surface of the flare nut.
• On R410A/R32 lines, apply a drop of refrigeration oil to the flare surface and tighten the flare nut with a torque wrench — excessive torque cracks the flare.
